Having a Safe Retirement In Thailand

If you’ve been following my channel over the years you know my goals and intentions. Not only do I want you to find a place to retire with more life for less money but also do so safely. So since I started this channel I have referred it to places that are less conducive to a safe and fulfilling retirement for those over 65 or 70 years old as “no-fly zones”.

There seems to be a misunderstanding of what constitutes a “no-fly zone”. Right off the bat I’d like to say that it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t visit these places or that they’re not conducive to a retirement destination. But as you probably have figured out by now they are on the high tourist areas. And there are certain dynamics that happen no matter what country in these types of places where the whole goal and focus is on taking and receiving money from persons not from these areas.

Because the demand for employment is so high in these areas there is also a dynamic in play from having to employ many people to fill all the jobs and because of this many people come to work and find jobs from areas outside of these destinations.

In the Asian culture the concept of saving face governs a lot of behaviors and actions. People don’t want to do things that will reflect badly on their family. So when local people fulfill the local job requirements they have to fall in line with acceptable behavior. If they don’t it’ll make their family look badly. But if they come from other areas or other countries and they do something bad and get caught more than likely their family won’t even know of the incident. So they use that to take liberty and partaking in bad behaviors.

As in any country there are wolves in sheep’s clothing. And when many people perceive the Thai people as being sheep it opens up for the opportunity for people that actually have bad intentions to take advantage of the unsuspecting.
