How does a retirement on a beach in Thailand sound? I’ve looked at a few places around Thailand on the coast as potential retirement destinations. Five years ago I visited Ao Nang, Krabi and thought it had a lot to offer for somebody thinking about retiring at a beach (2013 series JC’s Road Trip – Living the Beach Life –Ao Nang Krabi, Thailand – Part 1). Well it’s time to revisit Ao Nang, Krabi and see if it’s gotten better or worse as a retirement destination.
Sorry it appears the noise cancelling earbuds have been discontinued! ๐

If you not familiar with Ao Nang Krabi, Thailand here is some information about it in the area around it.
Ao Nang is a focus point of the coastal province of Krabi, Thailand. The town consists chiefly of one main street, which is populated by restaurants, pubs, shops and other commerce aimed at tourists.
The main beach is used by a few sunbathers to a certain extent, but for the most part tourists take the longtail boats which offer access to other beaches on nearby islands. So many times you have the beach basically to yourself.

Ao Nang’s small but still has a nightlife which centers on two areas, which are known locally as “Center Point” and “The Soi” (Soi RCA). There used to be another nightlife area, the strip of bars along Bamboo Soi, but were demolished in 2014. Both Center Point (on the main beach road) and “The Soi” (about 200 meters up from the beach on the right just before McDonald’s across the street) contain bars offering loud music, hostesses, and free pool.
Remember, there’s always an option!
