I have good news for ex-pats retiring in Thailand and needing updated information on the mandatory major medical health insurance requirement when applying for an O–A visa for retirement in your home country. What’s the new news?
Well I’ve gotten the word from reliable sources that there will be changes from what was initially reported as being the acceptable forms of insurance. Prior to what I was told it was announced that only six Thailand insurance companies could provide special insurance policies that were created for this specific policy for immigration purposes.
I have now been told, again by reliable sources, that people applying for the O-A visa in their home country will now be able to use existing policies that they already have as long as they meet the minimum requirements specified for the major medical insurance requirements.
So not only will you be able to use existing insurance policies but they can also be from your home country! This is exceptionally good news. Having said that though, I really recommend that you get your major medical insurance coverage in Thailand words can be a lot less expensive if you’re not from a country with socialized medicine.
