Who We Are and What This Policy Covers

Howdy! We are the folks behind Retire Cheap Asia and the Retire Cheap Asia member site which are focused on anyone looking to find options on how to get “More Life for Less Money” in their retirement years.

This Privacy Policy applies to information that we collect about you when you use:

  • Our websites (including RetireCheap.tv/members, RetireCheap.asia and MapsNMore.com);

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We only collect information about you if we have a reason to do so–for example, to provide our Services, to communicate with you, or to make our Services better.

We collect information in three ways: if and when you provide information to us, automatically through operating our Services, and from outside sources. Let’s go over the information that we collect.

Information You Provide to Us

  • Transaction and Billing Information: If you buy something from us–a subscription to a Retire Cheap Asia membership plan, a premium product, for example–you will provide additional personal and payment information that is required to process the transaction and your payment, such as your name, credit card information, and contact information. We receive none of that personal financial information except the email address for your PayPal account but none of your bank account information.
  • Content Information: Depending on the Services you use, you may also provide us with information about you in draft and published content (such as for your website or in one of our surveys). For example, if you write a forum post that includes biographic information about you, we will have that information, and so will anyone with access to the membership site if you choose to publish the post it publicly. This might be obvious to you…but it’s not to everyone!
  • Communications With Us (Hi There!): You may also provide us information when you respond to surveys, communicate with our Happiness Engineers about a support question, or post a question about our site in our public forums.

Information We Collect Automatically

We also collect some information automatically:

  • Log Information: Like most online service providers, we collect information that web browsers, mobile devices, and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, IP address, unique device identifiers, language preference, referring site, the date and time of access, operating system, and mobile network information. We collect log information when you use our Services–for example, when you log in or create or make changes to your member profile.
  • Usage Information: We collect information about your usage of our Services. For example, we collect information about the actions that users perform on our site–in other words, who did what, when and to what thing on a site (e.g., [username] read “[title of post]” at [time/date]). As another example, Google analytics tracks information about your device. We use this information to, for example, provide our Services to you, as well as get insights on how people use our Services, so we can make our Services better.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available HERE. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

The form submissions (entries) are saved to our WordPress database. The data only leaves our site when a notification email is sent.

Cookies

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. Pixel tags (also called web beacons) are small blocks of code placed on websites and emails. At the moment we don’t track analytics but plan to incorporate Google analytics to improve the users experience as well as improve marketing and content.

Who we share your data with

We take your privacy very seriously and sell no data with any entity or company outside the member site. Let me repeat and be clear. We do not sell our users’ private personal information.

  • Legal Requests: We may disclose information about you in response to a subpoena, court order, or other governmental request.

Information Shared Publicly

Information that you choose to make public is–you guessed it–disclosed publicly.

That means, of course, that information like your public profile, posts, other content that you make public on our website, and your “Likes” and comments, are all available to others!

For example, the photo that you upload to your public profile, or a default image if you haven’t uploaded one, is your Globally Recognized Avatar, or Gravatar–get it? :). Your Gravatar, along with other public profile information, will display with the comments and “Likes” that you make on the website while logged in to your Retire Cheap Asia account if the email address associated with your account with us is the same as the email address that you use on the Gravatar.com website.

Public information may also be indexed by search engines or used by third parties.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Security

While no online service is 100% secure, we work very hard to protect information about you against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction, and take reasonable measures to do so, such as monitoring our Services for potential vulnerabilities and attacks.

How do we protect your information?

Your personal information is stored on secured servers and networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential. In addition, all sensitive/credit information you supply is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.

All financial transactions are processed through a payment gateway provider and are not stored or processed on our servers.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

We do not specifically market to children under the age of 13 years old and our Site is not suitable for children under 13.
