In part 5, more costs of housing and some final thoughts and distinctions about Laem Mae Phim. Do you wonder if I would live in Laem Mae Phim? Why or why wouldn’t I live there? I have been excited to show you another option for beach side living, Laem Mae Phim Beach. Laem Mae Phim (Mae Phim Cape) has been a nice and peaceful beach to hang out at in Rayong province in Eastern Thailand. We have been here checking it out as a possible retirement destination.

Up the road towards Rayong there is a selection of higher end hotels and resorts – all fronting on to the Laem Mae Beach, and generally these resorts have ‘private’ access to that particular part of the beach. The main ‘public’ part of the beach is several km long further east and is where I will be during my stay and where I have checked out prices for you. While here we are getting condo rental prices, prices on houses, motorcycle rental prices and cost of food and some medical stuff as well.
Be aware though that Hat Laem Mae Phim is not the beach where you will go if you want a lot of excitement, but if you want a peaceful time, on a relatively clean beach, then this is a place for you.
On weekends and holidays, as with most beaches near the populated areas, it gets a little busy. But Mae Phim is big enough to handle the more crowded weekends and holidays. But mid week you can almost have this long beach to yourself during certain times of the year.
Laem (Cape) Mae Phim, is mostly a beach for the local people, but that does not preclude ‘outside’ visitors. So far it has been saved from the hordes of tourists like some other beaches.
There are some activities to do on this beach but the sunsets are a great reason to hang out in the early evening. There are also activities that include cycling on the beach, swimming, kayaking and visiting oyster farms. On weekends and holidays the beach has some power boats, but nowhere near the extent of that suffered at Pattaya Beach.
Heading down the beach toward the east, things start to get a little more busy and towards the end of the beach the frontage is taken over with restaurants mostly selling the local seafood, and Thai traditional food. Luckily you won’t get gouged at these restaurants. At Laem Mae Phim there are many places where you can eat or stay or do both. I feel it’s a great place for relaxation.
All around the area there are plenty of places to stay. Some are more up-market places that are in the two main Sois that come down from Sukhumvit Road. The furthest end of the beach is home to a few fishing boats, which you can catch going out from the beach in early morning.
